Temple Update is a weekly, half-hour news program written, directed, and anchored by Temple students. The program focuses on news and events on campus, in the surrounding area, and anywhere there may be a story of interest to the greater Temple community. Every semester, the graduating seniors of Temple Update anchor, produce, and direct the semester finale, where they get one last chance to showcase their student broadcasting talents. You will see some familiar and not-so-familiar faces as some of the regular behind-the-scenes crew make their debut on the screen. The Vibe is All New

In this episode of The Vibe, hosts Joshua Groves, Amiyah Young, DJ Britton, and Tristen Plato discuss the versatility of Black artists and their significant impact on various music genres. They highlight artists they believe have contributed significantly to cross-genre music. Later, Tristen and DJ walk around campus and discover what kind of music students listen to and how they believe Black artists have influenced those genres. Finally, the hosts play a game called “Guess the Artist,” where they answer trivia questions about different Black artists and the history of their discography and performances.

Temple Tonight Returns

Temple Tonight is TUTV’s first late-night talk show, featuring a house band, stand-up comedy, interviews, musical performances, and more!

In this episode of Temple Tonight, host Spencer Boyce takes us on a journey filled with wild stories, hilarious voicemails, and even sword fighting. A familiar face returns to hilariously guide Spencer through the ins and outs of hosting the show. To wrap things up, Spencer sits down with the band American Ink for an interview and musical performance, during which they play their song “Cloud Walker.” American Ink is an independent pop-punk and alt-rock band based in Boston, featuring drummer Nick Fauza, guitarist Michael Romano, and bassist Aidan Crotty.

Artists Among Us Returns

Artists Among Us is an original TUTV program created by Klein College Alum Melanie Spiegel. This unique program celebrates the inspiring work of local artists of all kinds and their powerful influence on our communities.

(Recorded in September and October of 2024) On the Fall 2024 semester premiere of Artists Among Us, hosts Rachel Williams and Veronica Rin take us through various elements of The Art of Cooking. First, they stop at the Southeast Asian Food Market and try some Southeast Asian cuisine. Next, Rachel takes us through the history of the Michelin Star and what it takes for a restaurant to earn one. Later, Rachel stops by Shane’s Confectionary Shop and talks with Jennifer Kyler, senior pastry assistant and candy packer, about the shop’s history and how it works. Finally, Rachel puts her cooking skills to the test and teaches us how to make a rice bowl.

World At Temple Returns

The World at Temple provides comprehensive coverage of international student-events taking place at Temple University. From academic seminars and cultural festivals to social gatherings and community service activities, the show offers an in-depth look at the diverse and vibrant community of international students at Temple.

(Recorded in October 2024) On this episode of The World at Temple, hosts Veronica Rin and Emily De Notaris discuss the controversial proposal for the 76ers Arena and examine the potential consequences its construction could have on Philadelphia’s historic Chinatown neighborhood. Later, Veronica and Emily highlight the various initiatives the city of Philadelphia is implementing to honor Hispanic Heritage Month. (Which took place from September 15 through October 15, 2024)  They explore events and programs designed to celebrate the rich tapestry of Hispanic culture and provide information on how residents can actively participate in these celebrations.

Finally, Joshua and Amiyah welcome special guest Kobana, a rising rapper and producer from Philadelphia.

On this episode of In Performance, host Jesse Kosierowski welcomes Jack Klotz, a seasoned professional in the music industry and an associate professor at Temple University’s Klein College of Media & Communication. Jack has a passion for both music and education, boasting over 20 years of experience in teaching music production. He is a talented musician, music engineer, and educator who enjoys the creativity and innovation present in the music industry. During the episode, Jack performs his original songs “Polywog” and “V & L.” Jesse and Jack also discuss how Jack first became fascinated by music and the evolution of the music industry.

Celebrate Veterans Day

On Monday, November 11, beginning at 12:30 PM, TUTV will honor Veterans Day with a special lineup of programming dedicated to recognizing the service and sacrifices of veterans and active-duty military personnel. The programming will feature a series of documentaries, interviews, and inspiring stories that showcase the courage, resilience, and dedication of the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

Why We Fight

12:30 PM & 8:30 PM Why We Fight: Prelude to War is a series of seven propaganda films produced by the US Department of War from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. It was originally written for American soldiers to help them understand why the United States was involved in the war, but US President Franklin Roosevelt ordered distribution for public viewing.

1:30 & 9:30 PM 11 Bravo Vietnam: A Soldier’s Story is a virtual scrapbook of one young man’s experiences in combat from the day he received word of his induction to his homecoming. He sings of terribly brief friendships on the battlefield, the searing awareness of his mortality, and the random forces that preserve one life and take another. He tells of the importance of family and humor.

Excelsior Forever Upward!

2:30 & 10:30 PM Excelsior Forever Upward tells the life story of a WWII combat veteran and the love of his first car, a 1939 Ford Fordor. As a tribute to WWII combat veteran Gordon B. Lofquist and the crew he served with on a B-17 for the U.S. 8th Air Force, this special shows how Lofquist used his imagination to get himself through difficult missions during WWII when he thought he was going to die.

3:00 & 11: 00 PM Ten Vietnam Vets is part three of Clayton Rye’s 2005 Vietnam Documentary trilogy and the winner of the Special Jury Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Gino Merli

4:00 PM & Midnight Gino Merli: The Healing Hero is a 40-minute docudrama that recounts the World War II exploits of Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and lifelong northeastern Pennsylvania resident Gino Merli. The Merli program, which stars regional actor Michael Fallon and is based on a play written by Tom Flannery, is co-produced by Bob Shlesinger and Scranton Public Theatre. The show depicts Merli’s extraordinary heroism at age 20, which resonates throughout his life. The docudrama intercuts World War II archival motion picture footage and photographs within four dramatic scenes that span the last afternoon of Merli’s life.

The Fall 2024 semester premiere of Temple Tonight is full of fresh faces, silly satirical segments, and talented guests. The show kicks off with new host Spencer Boyce, who leads the way for a night of segments such as “Fun Police” and political satire by “Dr. Randall Kennedy.” Later, Spencer welcomes members of Temple University’s Musical Theater Cabaret Club Broadway on Broad, Elena, Lauren, and Dominic to the stage. Temple Talk is back; this time, they’re taking you somewhere over the rainbow for a Halloween Special! On this episode, hosts Julia Green, Kennedy Brown, Abby Gingrich, and Jesse Kosierowski welcome a new face to the couch, Madeline Gillespie. Together, they talk about your favorite stars’ seriously spooky style statements, celebrities’ influence and political endorsements, the upcoming Wicked movies, Demi Lovato’s recent documentary “Child Star,” and more!

On Monday, November 4, at 12:30 PM, TUTV observes the 2024 election with a thoughtfully curated lineup of shorts and documentaries, all focusing on the pioneering individuals and movements that paved the way for minority and women’s voting rights. These programs dive into the stories of trailblazers who fought tirelessly for suffrage, social justice, and human rights, highlighting their resilience, courage, and the lasting impact on shaping democratic participation.

12:30 & 8:30 PM: The Detroit Civil Rights Trilogy is a powerful collection of three films that explores the pivotal moments, figures, and movements in Detroit’s civil rights history. Through in-depth storytelling and archival footage, the trilogy captures the struggles and triumphs of African Americans as they fought for equality in one of the most racially divided cities in America. Part 1, “Rosa Parks of the Boblo Boat.” Part 2, “Mr. Interlocutor of Mount Clemens.” Part 3, “Last Survivor of the Ford Hunger March.”

1:30 & 9:30 PM: Votes for Women is an inspiring documentary that chronicles the decades-long struggle for women’s suffrage in the United States, focusing on the brave women who led the movement for voting rights. The film brings to life the courage, resilience, and determination of key figures like Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Sojourner Truth, and Alice Paul through a combination of archival footage, personal letters, and interviews with historians.

1:45 & 9:45 PM: Election Day 2016 is a gripping documentary that offers a ground-level view of the events and emotions surrounding one of the most divisive and unexpected presidential elections in U.S. history. Filmed from multiple perspectives across the country, the documentary captures the atmosphere on November 8, 2016, as voters from diverse backgrounds head to the polls to cast their ballots in the race between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump.

2:00 & 10:00 PM Inez Milholland: Forward Into Light is a stirring documentary that honors the life and legacy of Inez Milholland, one of the most iconic and courageous figures of the American women’s suffrage movement. Known for her striking beauty, intellect, and fearless activism, Milholland became a symbol of the fight for women’s voting rights, famously leading suffrage parades on horseback and delivering powerful speeches nationwide.

2:30 & 10:30 PM: Positive Force: More Than a Witness: 30 Years of Punk Politics in Action is a compelling documentary that chronicles the history and impact of Positive Force, a revolutionary punk activist collective based in Washington, D.C., Founded in the 1980s. The group fused the energy of punk music with a passion for social justice, using their platform to raise awareness and inspire action on issues such as homelessness, poverty, human rights, and anti-racism.
