Oronde McClain

(Recorded in November 2024) On this episode of The Uptick, hosts Rachel Williams and Brianna Fallon sit down with Oronde McClain, a gun violence survivor and advocate, to discuss his powerful documentary, The Second Trauma. Produced in collaboration with the Philadelphia Center for Gun Violence Reporting, the 28-minute documentary sheds light on the lives of Philadelphians profoundly affected by Philadelphia’s record-setting gun violence. Through raw and emotional storytelling, Oronde shares his journey of transforming personal tragedy into advocacy for survivors, offering insights on how media, journalism students, and audiences can approach stories of gun violence with greater sensitivity and care. The Second Trauma was produced, directed, and edited by the Center’s Director, Yvonne Latty, with help from Director of Photography Natalie Reitz and Production Assistant Allison Beck.
