TUTV is saddened to learn of the recent passing of music and show business legend Kal Rudman and his wife Lucille, who were integral to the launching of our channel in 2010 through their foundation, the Kal and Lucille Rudman Foundation. We are devastated over the loss of this wonderful couple who gave so much. They were champions for Temple students, providing the support that made it possible for TUTV’s student reporters to cover such monumental events as the Olympics, the DNC and the Pope Francis visit.
Kal Rudman was a monumental music and show business pioneer and legend. As the founder and publisher of the nation’s leading radio and music industry publications, Rudman had a knack for picking hits and forecasting trends. His ability to predict top hits earned him the nickname, “The Man with the Golden Ears,” which led him to multiple appearances on “The Merv Griffin Show,” “The Today Show” and “The Tomorrow Show” with Tom Snyder. Rudman was also honored in 2017 as the first recipient of the Klein College Tribute Award.
Kal passed away following a long illness earlier this week. Lucille followed him two days later. They were both 91 years of age and had been together for 63 years.

Temple Smash is back in front of a live audience this semester, and you don’t want to miss it. If you weren’t able to be there for the live show in the Student Center, TUTV has you covered! The season premiere will air on our broadcast and online this Saturday, November 13 at 5 and 11 p.m.
Temple Smash is Temple University’s first and only televised variety show, produced for students by students. Taped in front of a live studio audience, the show features an array of talent acts including original sketch comedy, musical groups, dancers, stand-up comics, short films, and more.
The new episode is composed of several sketch comedies, performed both on-stage and prior to the show. The student written and produced sketches featured include Pants on a Subway, Nun High School, The Vet, and more.
TUTV is hosting a virtual social media cooking contest! Put your skills to the test and share your favorite ‘college-style’ meal on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #TUchef. The contest winner will receive a grand prize with a value of more than $100!
Get creative! Your meal should be innovative yet simple and take no longer than 30 minutes to prepare. Submissions will be accepted from November 10-16 and can be shared in the form of Instagram stories, reels, and posts, or on Twitter as a tweet or fleet. For Instagram submissions, participants must follow @temple_tv on Instagram. For Twitter submissions, participants must follow @templetv on Twitter. The hashtag #TUchef must be used for all entries.
Paul Gluck, TUTV’s general manager, shared his excitement about this student opportunity for creativity. He said, “We are very excited to be launching a fun contest for students to share quick and easy recipes with each other…we hope some students are able to try out these recipes for themselves.”

The World at Temple kicks off its new season this semester on Tuesday, November 16 at 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. Meet your new hosts, Rayma Abdallah and Jesse Dimich-Louvet, who conduct two interviews shedding light on international and cultural experiences here at Temple. Thomas Hernandez, a 2021 Diamond Award recipient and current student, discusses his roots in Philadelphia and how he established an identity following his move to the suburbs. Hear how he met diverse people through this experience and later from attending a performing arts high school and entering the dance community.
The team behind Klein College’s study abroad program also appear to share how students can take advantage of study abroad programs in both the U.S. and internationally. Klein GO Director Allie Miller and Assistant Director Gabby Verzella dive into how the pandemic has impacted these programs and what they look like now.
The Temple News is celebrating their 100th anniversary and will be hosting a series of seminars, speaker series, and events throughout the year. Their first publication, formerly known as the Temple University Weekly, was printed on September 19, 1921. Since then, the award-winning student publication has become the paper of record for the Temple community, releasing 2,000 copies biweekly.
The first event in the series is highlights reporting done in the 60s, 70s and 80s by hosting the following notable guests:

A new episode of Your Best Life with host Lisa Bien will premiere Monday, October 25th at noon and 8 p.m. on TUTV! Bien aims to give viewers a fresh perspective on their own misgivings regarding self worth through real life examples of personal struggle and self acceptance.
This episode features guest Kevin McLemore, an author and podcast host who experienced his own journey of self acceptance throughout his childhood. Abandoned by his mother at a young age, McLemore found himself drawn to juvenile delinquency. It was not until he found a passion for football in high school that he was able to dig himself out of a hole and learn to be true to himself. Despite nearly making it through college without basic reading and writing skills, McLemore has written three books to date with two more to be published soon. Hear more about his story and how he learned to change his own life Monday on TUTV!
The National 2020-2021 Pinnacle Awards were announced last week, honoring the best of college media organizations and individual work. TUTV was recognized for two broadcast productions by one of our most popular programs, OwlSports Update.
Our weekly sports news program won second place in the Best Video Sportscast category and third place in the Best Video Special Events Coverage category.

50 years have passed since a group of activists burglarized an FBI office, uncovering an illegal surveillance system used to watch and infiltrate the lives of American citizens who were involved in non-violent anti-Vietnam War protests and other civil rights groups. The burglarization, coined MEDBURG, revealed counterintelligence planted on activist groups and the existence of the infamous COINTELPRO operation. To commemorate the anniversary, these activists, along with the Washington Post reporter who exposed the crimes and various guests, returned to the scene of the crime: Media, PA.
On September 1, 2021, those involved reconvened to unveil a dedicated historical marker in Media Borough and to shed light on the significance of these events fifty years ago. Temple University’s own Dean David Boardman and Professor Marc Lamont Hill attended the commemoration. A screening of the 1971 documentary, which breaks down and portrays the events of that night, was hosted along with a discussion panel by Lamont Hill.
The 1971 documentary and discussion panel will air Wednesday, October 15 at 1 and 9 p.m. on TUTV. Tune in to learn more about this significant moment in history and hear speeches from prominent leaders at Temple.
Professor Karen M. Turner will be appearing live on Monday, October 18th at 12 p.m. with a new episode of A Broader View. A class of Turner’s journalism students host and produce this program with the objective to give viewers a broader view of big stories people are talking about, or should be talking about. Tune in and explore issues and events that transform our lives as it airs live on Monday!
