Humanities Lecture: James Earl Davis

In “Black Male Youth: Intersectionality and the ‘Schooling’ of Possibility and Peril”, James Earl Davis takes up the subject of the black male youth’s relationship with the education system. African American boys and young men still face enormous challenges accessing and succeeding in institutions of higher education. Statistically they are less likely to go to and complete college than their white or female counterparts. However, one often quoted statistic—that there are more African American men in prison than in college—no longer holds true, and possibly never was accurate. Davis is a faculty member of the Department of Psychological, Organizational, & Policy Studies within the College of Education.
