Lisa Bien, a professional marketing strategist and Temple Public Relations Professor, created Bouncing Back in an effort to give Temple students and other viewers insight into their own misgivings concerning self worth while presenting real life examples of personal struggle with self acceptance.
Second Chances
The road to redemption for two guests is the main focus of discussion this episode of Bouncing Back. By taking responsibility for their actions and empowering themselves despite adversity, they now join Lisa Bien to share words of wisdom to those that may be dealing with similar problems.
Chip Frenette, then a Temple student, became involved in a raucous lifestyle that landed him behind bars. But with a new life outlook he began a journey on the straight and narrow, with Temple as a foundation. Tyrone Werts was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole, but with a commuted sentence he was able to turn things around. He now serves as a public relations consultant for Temple’s Inside-Out program.
The final guest is Professor Jerry Stahler, a clinical psychologist working in the Geography and Urban Studies department at Temple University, who speaks on his work studying those that have grown up in difficult neighborhoods. In their discussion, the stigma of imprisonment is highlighted as a continuing cause of turmoil.
