Celebrate Veterans Day

On Monday, November 11, beginning at 12:30 PM, TUTV will honor Veterans Day with a special lineup of programming dedicated to recognizing the service and sacrifices of veterans and active-duty military personnel. The programming will feature a series of documentaries, interviews, and inspiring stories that showcase the courage, resilience, and dedication of the men and women who have served in the armed forces.

Why We Fight

12:30 PM & 8:30 PM Why We Fight: Prelude to War is a series of seven propaganda films produced by the US Department of War from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. It was originally written for American soldiers to help them understand why the United States was involved in the war, but US President Franklin Roosevelt ordered distribution for public viewing.

11 Bravo

1:30 & 9:30 PM 11 Bravo Vietnam: A Soldier’s Story is a virtual scrapbook of one young man’s experiences in combat from the day he received word of his induction to his homecoming. He sings of terribly brief friendships on the battlefield, the searing awareness of his mortality, and the random forces that preserve one life and take another. He tells of the importance of family and humor.

Excelsior Forever Upward!

2:30 & 10:30 PM Excelsior Forever Upward tells the life story of a WWII combat veteran and the love of his first car, a 1939 Ford Fordor. As a tribute to WWII combat veteran Gordon B. Lofquist and the crew he served with on a B-17 for the U.S. 8th Air Force, this special shows how Lofquist used his imagination to get himself through difficult missions during WWII when he thought he was going to die.

3:00 & 11: 00 PM Ten Vietnam Vets is part three of Clayton Rye’s 2005 Vietnam Documentary trilogy and the winner of the Special Jury Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Gino Merli

4:00 PM & Midnight Gino Merli: The Healing Hero is a 40-minute docudrama that recounts the World War II exploits of Congressional Medal of Honor recipient and lifelong northeastern Pennsylvania resident Gino Merli. The Merli program, which stars regional actor Michael Fallon and is based on a play written by Tom Flannery, is co-produced by Bob Shlesinger and Scranton Public Theatre. The show depicts Merli’s extraordinary heroism at age 20, which resonates throughout his life. The docudrama intercuts World War II archival motion picture footage and photographs within four dramatic scenes that span the last afternoon of Merli’s life.
