In this lecture, titled, “Researching the Recent Past: the Enduring Significance of 1995,” W. Joseph Campbell discusses his research into the recent past — specifically the watershed year of 1995. Major events of 1995 include the emergence of the Internet and World Wide Web into mainstream consciousness, the Oklahoma City bombing, the double-murder trial of O.J. Simpson, the end of the war in Bosnia by a U.S.-brokered peace agreement, and President Bill Clinton’s sex scandal. Campbell also addresses the challenges and rewards of conducting scholarly research into recent history.
