SMC Lecture: Colleen Macklin

Game design is a practice.  It’s something that most people dabble in as kids, in the playground, field or street, but there’s also a fine art to it, and that takes time to learn.  This presentation, titled “Game Design for Social Change” examines how game design, particularly those tackling risk or social justice initiatives, can be honed and implemented through community engagement.  Focusing on how communities understand the nuances of their situation, Colleen Macklin of the New School looks at how designing games and building upon local mechanics can serve as a way to foster community problem solving by creating an atmosphere of equality and camaraderie.
