SMC Lecture: Brooke Duffy

In this lecture titled, “The Politics of ‘Passion Projects’: Gender and Aspirational Labor in the Social Media Age”, Dr. Brooke Duffy discusses her research with “aspirational workers”–women who do creative work online. Women in this category include fashion bloggers, YouTube performers, and more. Aspirational workers, Duffy discovered, face many challenges and don’t always get paid for their work.

Dr. Brooke Duffy is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Advertising. Her research interests include media and cultural production, digital culture, feminist media studies, and critical analyses of advertising and consumer culture.
