SMC Lecture: “American Boy”

Media Studies and Production Professor Kristine Weatherston screens her documentary, “American Boy,” with an introduction and a Q&A. While violence, displacement and loss defined her grandfather’s immigration to the United States, Weatherston’s short documentary connects these themes to a larger question about cultural identity across generations. How do we connect personally to the ephemeral artifacts of history? Using archival footage and mixed media, the documentary situates the present within a remix of the past.

Dr. Weatherston is a media artist and educator whose creative practice intersects archival research, family narrative and documentary production. Through modes of nonfiction, she explores stories of identity, history and our everyday superpowers. She is an assistant professor in the Department of Media Studies and Production at Temple University.
