Klein College Lecture: Eileen Truax

Journalist Eileen Truax discusses her new book, “We Built the Wall.” The book provides an immersive look at the new front in the immigration wars. “We Built the Wall” follows the stories of people like Saúl Reyes, who was forced to flee his home after a drug cartel murdered members of his family, and Delmy Calderón, a 42-year-old woman leading an eight-woman hunger strike in an El Paso detention center. Truax’s book also features lawyer Carlos Spector, who has filed hundreds of political asylum cases on behalf of human rights defenders, journalists and political dissidents. His cases and their media coverage have increasingly put a spotlight on U.S. immigration policy, the state of Mexico and the political basis of immigration, asylum and deportation decisions.
