50 Years Later: Civil Rights and Voting Rights

This Chat in the Stacks discussion focuses on voting rights, civil rights and human rights. The panel, hosted by the Temple University Libraries, is led by Professors Dr. John Groce and James Kelch of the Temple University College of Social Work. The lecture opens with the two discussing what their lives were like in 1965 and how racism and discrimination was commonplace in many places, Temple University among them. They also discuss the important roles Temple faculty and staff have played in fighting for and ensuring equal rights, and how equality and rights are central to the university’s mission. Professor Kelch talks about the riots on Columbia Avenue and the state of panic Philadelphia was thrown into. Preceding a Q&A, Dr. Groves delivers a call to action, stressing that their work is not yet over.
