John Roberts: Man of the Year 1988

John Roberts was the weekend news anchor at WFIL-TV (Channel 6) from 1952 to 1972, the founder of the Temple University radio station, one of the co-founders of WHYY Radio (1954) and WHYY-TV (1957), and a teacher of communications at Temple from 1946 to 1988. Roberts is honored at his retirement party as the man of the year, as Robert R. Smith, the university’s communications dean, was quoted to have said that Mr. Roberts had made “an incalculable contribution to his profession and to education.”
