Sheer Good Fortune documents a moving moment in the evolution of African Americans’ literary identity. This documentary highlights the tribute ceremony hosted by Dr. Maya Angelou, Joanne Gabbin, and Nikki Giovanni to honor Morrison, an American novelist, editor, and professor. In addition, Morrison’s work is looked at in greater depth in terms of the value of “Black English,” historical revisionism, African American spirituality, building community through literature, and transgressing gender taboos.
