Get ready for the Spring 2023 premiere of Temple Update: Temple Update is a weekly, half-hour news program produced, written, directed, and anchored by Temple students. Temple Update focuses on news and events on campus, and anywhere there may be a story of interest to the greater Temple community.

This semester, we welcome an all-new Cherry and White team lineup.

Cherry Team: Maggie Fitzgerald & Kathryn Oleary (Anchors), Taylor Hess (Sports), and Ahn’yae Hedgepeth (Weather)

On this episode of Temple Tonight, host Madeline Gillespie leads the way for a fun night of entertainment. From hilarious headlines to a new “Props & Flops” segment, Madeline will have you rolling on the floor with laughter. Later, special guest Trey Andrusky tells the audience about Temple’s Insomnia Theater. Find out what is entailed in 24-hr theater, how to get involved, and how a lot of cardboard and a little bit of creativity can win over an entire audience.

Throughout her career, Nicola has coordinated efforts and partnerships with key stakeholders in all levels of leadership and government, including FEMA, PEMA, the Philadelphia departments of Public Health and Commerce, and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority.

Her primary role is to plan for the worst-case scenarios that can occur at Temple University while developing the most innovative strategies for emergency preparedness, disaster prevention, and recovery.

TUTV Welcomes Chelsea Scruggs

Inventive, energetic, and dynamic, Chelsea Scruggs comes to TUTV after more than a decade of regional media accomplishments, having written, produced, and directed projects for video, TV, film, the web, and the theatre.

Chelsea’s experience teaching Film and Video Production in the School District of Philadelphia is one driving reason we know she will soon become a significant, versatile resource for the students, staff, and faculty who work with TUTV.

A Lincoln University graduate who worked with Comcast Spotlight, Chelsea also spent more than a decade benefiting from the mentorship of Philadelphia radio legend Gary Shepherd. She held various professional posts at his production company, 3rd Floor Media.

First, reporter Liz DeOrnellas goes to the site of the Philadelphia Energy Solutions Refinery Explosion to talk with local activists calling for sustainable redevelopment. Later, Michala Butler outlines support systems and resources for people in the LGBTQ+ community who struggle with being “Home For The Holidays.” Finally, Alissa Clausell and Nathen Mutale sit down with Dr. Hawthorne Smith and Dr. Adeyinka Akinsulure-Smith of The Bellvue Program For Survivors of Torture to discuss Asylum Seekers and their mission to assist individuals and families subjected to torture and other human rights abuses to rebuild healthy, self-sufficient lives, and to contribute to global efforts to end torture.**

TUTV Says Farewell To Ed Dress

TUTV’s incomparable TUTV staff producer, Ed Dress, has decided to retire, completing a vibrant career in Journalism and Higher Education that took him from the newsroom to the classroom.

Ed once said there is a great sense of closure in this decision. After all, Ed left this campus in 1982 with a Temple diploma and returned with a dazzling body of work, and a long list of accolades, recognizing the exemplary work he did as a vital member of the Investigative Reporting Unit at Philadelphia’s NBC10.

As our staff producer, Ed has guided TUTV students in their professional-grade coverage of global events in our region, like the 2015 Papal visit and the 2016 Democratic National Convention.

Ed has since supported our students in the creative development of eclectic, award-winning content, such as The Vibe, Temple Tonight, We Need to Talk, The World at Temple, La Charla, Temple Pilots, QT: Queer Temple, and so many more.

He has also distinguished himself by teaching a broadcast promotion course as an adjunct in the Klein Advertising Department.

Ed is intelligent, tenacious, and, above all, one of the kindest people you will ever meet. He will be missed.
