In 1948, Philadelphia hosted both the RNC and DNC and made broadcasting history by airing both nationally for the first time. The city was at the center point of the Boston to Richmond coaxial cable, then the main carrier of live television in the United States.

Whether you’re in town for the convention or living in Philadelphia already, there are many events going on this week and next to take advantage of. We’ve listed some highlights below.
PoliticalFest
A multi-location exhibition celebrating American history, government and the road to the White House, PoliticalFest is a non-partisan display that combines multimedia and interactive displays, historical objects and special events to entertain and engage both residents and convention attendees.
When: July 22-27
Where: The National Constitution Center, the Pennsylvania Convention Center, National Liberty Museum, Philadelphia History Museum, The Philadelphia Library Company, Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the Heritage Center at the Union League.
Cost: $15, adults; $5, kids 18 and younger

Philly Feast
Philly Feast will feature food trucks and food vendors that represent the best, most diverse eats the city has to offer, including Gigi & Big R, Foolish Waffles, Philadelphia Distilling, Luke’s Lobster, Vegan Commissary, Taco Mondo, Nomad Pizza and Underground Donuts, among others. In addition, there will be live music on the main stage.
When: Monday, July 25, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Old City, 3rd and Arch streets
Cost: Free admission; Pay as you go food and drink
July Twilight in the Gardens
A BYOB event at the Magic Gardens; come to camp out and enjoy your favorite drink while Circadian Rhythms, an indie pop band, performs.
When: Friday, July 22, 2016, 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Cost: $18 for adults, $15 for students & seniors

TUTV will air DNC 2016 coverage in partnership with Temple Update starting this Sunday. But what is the purpose of political convention? Though we see them covered by the media, we may not understand their importance nor what delegates and politicians have gathered to accomplish. Temple asked Political Science Department Chair Robin Kolodny to break it down for us. Check out the video to learn what happens at political conventions in the United States.

The newest episode of Bouncing Back with Lisa Bien seeks to educate viewers about Alzheimer’s, an incurable and little understood disease of the mind.
Lisa brings two guests to the set of her show who have personal experience with the disease. Brigid Smith, a Marketing Specialist for the Temple Health system, has had two grandparents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and describes how the disease impacts caregivers. Nancy Venner–a Broadcast Journalism Temple alumna and the Senior Director of Philanthropy for the Delaware chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association–provides scientific and physiological insight into the disease and answers many common questions, including explaining the difference between dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Chris Barnes, Director of Operations at Morgan Hall, joins Baker Dave in the kitchen to make his grandmother’s recipe for ricotta cheese pie. Barnes and Baker Dave discuss what being Director of Morgan Hall at Temple involves, his family history and heritage, Italian pronunciation and much more.
Ricotta cheese pie is an old Italian cake that is similar to cheesecake but lighter, and traditionally served for special occasions.

On an all new episode of Bouncing Back with Lisa Bien, Lisa questions our preconceived notions of what stress is and what impact it has to have on our life. She talks to Dr. Penny Levin, a psychologist and Temple alumna, regarding her expert opinion. Also on set is Olivia Nicolazzo, a senior at Temple who has learned to make the most out of her stress by practicing mindfulness.
