New episode of Brand Matters tackles “deepfakes”

With the rise of social media and influencer marketing, celebrity endorsements have become a big deal in the ad industry. But how can we tell between a real endorsement and a fake one?

In light of Ariana Grande’s $10 million lawsuit against Forever 21 for tricking customers into thinking that she endorses the brand, Brand Matters host Steve McLean along with John Duffin from Duffin Media take a look at ad campaigns throughout the history that adopted the same tactic, as well as the lawsuits that followed.

TUTV’s Before I Graduate contest is back starting October 23. Every year, TUTV fulfills a Temple wish of one Temple student. Tweet your wish @templetv using the hashtag #TUTVBIG before November 4 to get a chance to take an item off of your college bucket list before graduating. Or you can show up to the SAC on Wednesday, October 30 between 2:30 and 3:20 p.m. and at the Bell Tower on November 1 between 2:15 and 3:15 p.m. to submit your wish in person. A Broader View will air live on Monday

Tune in at noon Monday, October 21 for a live edition of the current affairs talk show. A Broader View is a student-run TV program highlighting a broad range of topical and relevant issues– subjects that people are talking about or should be talking about!

The Spanish-language talk show premieres their new season after taking a break over the summer. Tune in to TUTV on Thursday, October 17 at 3:30 p.m. to see the latest episode after a new edition of Lo Último, TUTV’s Spanish-language news show, at 3 p.m.

What do kids think about media?

Media Inside Out: What do Kids think?

To answer this question, host of Media Inside Out Sherri Hope Culver will go right to the source. In a slightly irregular edition of the show, the guests will be three thirteen-year old students from a local middle school. They will discuss their favorite media (apps, social media, movies, television shows, music, etc.), their family rules about media, concerns they have about media, and more.

Tune in to TUTV on Monday, October 14 at noon to see this program live. It will re-air the same day at 8 p.m.

On this edition of Your Best Life, Dana Marie shares with host Lisa Bien her battle embracing self-love and acceptance. Tune in on Monday to hear how Dana Marie fought to save her life from sexual abuse, domestic violence, and severe depression.

Dana Marie is now a Program Coordinator at the Police Athletic League of Philadelphia, a motivational speaker, and the author of Live Life Free.

The 2019 Lew Klein Awards will air live on TUTV

2019 Lew Klein Alumni in the Media and Excellence in the Media Awards

TUTV will carry the 2019 Lew Klein Awards ceremony live from Mitten Hall this year. The Klein College of Media and Communication will host its annual awards presentation, featuring 17 distinguished media professionals who have been selected as Excellence in the Media honorees, and 132 alumni who have joined the school’s Hall of Fame. This year marks the sixth time the school honors a “Rising Star” to showcase the achievements of its young alumni.

CNN anchor and chief Washington, D.C. correspondent Jake Tapper will be this year’s Excellence honoree. Tapper has been recognized with a number of awards, particularly for his work on the 2016 election. The Lew Klein Award for Excellence in the Media honors outstanding members of the media whose accomplishments bring honor to their professions.

Tune in on Friday, October 4 at 12:15 p.m. to Comcast 50 or Verizon 45 within city limits or online everywhere to see the ceremony live. The ceremony will air again at 8:15 p.m. later the same day.

A Broader View is back for the fall 2019 semester with a program examining gun culture within the United States.

Joining student hosts Tanjeen Twinkle and Kenny Cooper to discuss the topic are former Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter, high school activists Alex Franzino and Ethan Block with March For Our Lives Philadelphia, the Executive Director of CeaseFire PA, Shira Goodman, and Colwin Williams, an Outreach Worker for Philly CeaseFire.
