Recognition celebrates Scruggs’ commitment to service, mentorship and creating opportunities for the next generation
Temple University Television (TUTV) Multimedia Producer Chelsea Scruggs has been named one of Lincoln University’s 2026 “40 Under 40” Honorees, recognizing the professional accomplishments, leadership and impact of one of the university’s distinguished young alumni.
The honor is particularly meaningful for Scruggs, who is celebrating the 10th anniversary of her graduation from Lincoln University.
“Lincoln gave me more than a degree,” Scruggs said in announcing the recognition. “It instilled in me purpose, excellence, service, and a responsibility to use what I’ve been given to make an impact.”
Those values are evident every day in Scruggs’ work at TUTV, where her role extends well beyond television production.
As Multimedia Producer, Scruggs works closely with students developing original programming, helps them navigate production challenges, reviews portfolios, provides career guidance and serves as a mentor as they prepare to enter the media industry. Her office has become a regular destination for students looking for advice, encouragement or simply someone willing to listen.
“If there is one phrase that describes Chelsea, it is, ‘What can I do to help?’” said Joe Schreiber, General Manager of TUTV. “She sees a need, takes ownership of it and follows through. Most importantly, she genuinely cares about our students and their success. TUTV is a better organization because of Chelsea, and our students are better prepared for their careers because she invests in them.”
One example of that commitment was Scruggs’ creation of the TUTV Industry Exposure Seminar. Recognizing the importance of connecting students directly with the professional world, Scruggs developed an event bringing media professionals and alumni together with students for panel discussions, networking, career guidance and small-group conversations.
Rather than simply identifying the need for greater industry access, Scruggs created an entirely new opportunity for students to build relationships and learn directly from professionals working in the field.
Her contributions extend throughout TUTV. Whether helping students launch new programs, supporting productions, organizing student-focused events or stepping into a project when an extra set of hands is needed, Scruggs has established herself as a trusted resource for students and colleagues alike.
For Scruggs, however, the Lincoln University recognition is also an opportunity to give back.
In celebration of being named a 40 Under 40 honoree, she has set a goal of raising $1,000 for Lincoln University, the nation’s first degree-granting Historically Black College and University, to support the institution and future generations of students.
“To be recognized by the institution that helped shape me is an honor I don’t take lightly,” Scruggs said. “So, I’m paying it forward.”
That commitment to paying it forward is fitting for someone whose work at TUTV is centered on doing exactly that—using her experience, creativity and generosity to help the next generation find its own path forward.
