The year is 1643, and the young gallant Dorante arrives in Paris to seek his fortune. Dashing as he may be, he is also a pathological liar. Instantly smitten by the beguiling beauty of one Clarice whom he haplessly mistakes for her dear best friend, Dorante’s tumbling heap of lies in pursuit of love launches an avalanche of comic confusion that engulfs servants, friends, and lovers alike.
Playwright David Ives hijacks the classic comic genius of 17th Century French master Pierre Corneille, rhymed couplets and all, and whips up a wild and witty confection of romantic deceit and deception mirthfully perpetrated all in the name of love. The Liar was directed by Douglas C. Wager at Thomlinson Theater.
