Women in Sports Media Symposium 2024

(Recorded in October of 2024) Hosted by the Claire Smith Center for Sports Media at Klein College, the Women in Sports Media Symposium commemorates the 40th anniversary of a pivotal moment in sports media history. When Claire Smith, the first woman to cover Major League Baseball on a full-time basis, was barred from the clubhouse during the 1984 NLCS, sparking a change that opened doors for women in the industry. Claire Smith, now founding executive director and namesake of the Claire Smith Center, became recognized as a legendary journalist and sportswriter and continues to pave the way for the future of journalism.

Join Klein College of Media and Communication for the inaugural Claire Smith Women in Sports Media Symposium at Temple University, a groundbreaking event dedicated to celebrating and empowering women in sports media. This one-day symposium brings together industry leaders, scholars, and aspiring professionals to engage in dynamic discussions, share insights, and honor trailblazers who have significantly contributed to the field.
