2014 Lew Klein Alumni in the Media Awards

The Lew Klein Alumni in the Media Awards honors NBC Nightly News Anchor Brian Williams with the School of Media and Communication’s top honor, the Lew Klein Excellence in the Media Award.

The following Temple SMC alumni received the Lew Klein Alumni in the Media Award and will be inducted into the School of Media and Communication Hall of Fame:

  • Tracy Davidson, SMC ’06, a reporter and anchor at NBC 10 in Philadelphia.
  • Gerhart L. (Jerry) Klein, SMC ’70, LAW ’80, executive vice president of the Anne Klein Communications Group.
  • Larry Margasak, SMC ’65, a longtime reporter at the Associated Press Washington Bureau, now retired.
  • John Oates, SMC ’70, musician and songwriter of the Hall and Oates duo, recently inducted into the Rock ‘n Roll Hall of Fame.
  • Claire Smith, SMC ’79, a pioneer for women in sports journalism, a former reporter forThe New York Times and The Philadelphia Inquirer who is now a news editor at ESPN.

The 2013 Rising Star Award was given to Meredith Z. Avakian-Hardaway. She is the director of communications and marketing at the Philadelphia Bar Association.
