Silent Struggles is a documentary that explores the experiences of Black female athletes, specifically current and former athletes at Temple University, focusing on the intersection of race, gender, and mental health. Through personal stories and insightful interviews, the film explores the unique challenges these athletes face, including navigating social interactions as Black women, dealing with societal perceptions of Black female athletes, and the mental health struggles that often go unnoticed in the sports community. The documentary also highlights potential solutions to destigmatize mental health conversations and create a more supportive environment for Black female athletes. Silent Struggles was created by Aaliyah Pope, a Klein College Class of 2024 graduate student, as part of her master’s thesis.
