The Kissinger Saga

The Kissinger Saga

Two brothers start out life in a well-to-do family in the idyllic town of Furth, Germany. In 1933 their world comes crashing down…the family is incomprehensibly expelled from Germany for the sole reason that they are Jewish. Thus starts the incredible odyssey of Walter and Henry Kissinger, both destined to become incredibly successful in their new country that is a safe haven and that values, above all else the freedom that allows talent, intelligence and hard work to flourish. A loving family is the bond that compels parents Louis and Paula Kissinger to escape the descending horrors of Nazi Germany and to move to what is humorously referred to as the expatriate “Fourth Reich” of Fort Washington, NY, where countless other Jewish emigrants find a new home. In this extraordinary film, Journalist and Filmmaker Evi Kurz, shares the bond of the Kissinger’s home town of Furth, Germany. Perhaps this is what enables her to re-kindle the brother’s longing to return home and accomplish for the first time what no one else has been able to accomplish – gain their confidence and approval to tell the brother’s life story in a dignified and revealing manner. But it is also the the straightforward, honest and dignified manner in which she tells it. Henry, the better known brother, Noble Peace Prize Winner, US Secretary of State and sought after Elder Statesman to this day, is a world renowned figure. Walter, in a less visible role, has equally been successful as a major figure in the business world and as a sought after adviser to countless business enterprises, as Chairman & CEO of Allen and Company. Their story, and extraordinary accomplishments as citizens of the United States, is a testament to the importance of a loving family that endures through incredible hardships and challenges, and ultimately succeeds because of the love that bonds them.
