Toy Marketing

This edition of Media Inside Out explores the business of selling toys to kids: the tactics advertisers employ to get kids to remember and want their products, the trends that unintentionally influence a child’s desires, and the concerns these both raise.

How does toy marketing affect how kids view play time and possession? Should we be protecting kids from these tactics? Can we? What about product placement in movies or kids’ increasing use of multiple platforms? Host Sherri Hope Culver and episode guests cover these topics and more.

Guests include Kathy Hirsh-Pasek who is an author of 11 books and a Professor of Psychology at Temple; Kevin Chevalier, an advertising student; and, on Skype, Ian Zimmerman, Professor of Psychology at the University of Missouri.
