From stories in the news, to characters in popular TV shows or reality shows, people with mental illness are often played for laughs, or distorted to create conflict in a plot line or simply misleading. The National Alliance on Mental Illness reports that 1 in 5 adults will experience mental illness in a given year. So, this is touching almost 20% of our friends, neighbors and colleagues. How are these media portrayals influencing our understanding of what it means to be mentally ill, or mentally healthy?

Media Inside Out is a TUTV original talk show that takes a critical and analytical approach to examine various forms of media. Hosted by Sherri Hope Culver, the Director of the Center for Media and Information Literacy at Temple University, and produced by TUTV's Student Practicum class, this program uncovers a deeper understanding of today's media landscape.
