Achieving Wellness in the Era of COVID

Host Karen M. Turner welcomes guests Dr. Tammi Grovatt-Dawkins, licensed counselor, Dr. Andrew Lee, Director of Temple’s Tuttleman Counseling Service and Chief Mental Health Officer for the University, and Alison McKee, Director of the Wellness Resource Center at Temple. Dr. Grovatt-Dawkins brings to light the shift that occurred during the pandemic from seeing counseling as an illness activity to seeing it as a wellness activity. The long-discussed “new normal” is now upon us as COVID cases drop, and Dr. Lee discusses what that means for mental health patients. Also, McKee dives into the roots of the anxiety students are facing in particular. Hear how COVID-19 increased counseling referrals, opened up the conversation about mental health and eased its stigma.
