The television industry is changing all the time, especially today. Klein College of Media and Communication recently hosted a Power Hour with the Pros session with alumna and Director at CBS News Sunday Morning, Nora Gerard, KLN ‘76, to discuss why she chose to study at Temple, what her journey to become a director at CBS was like, and how the pandemic has changed the industry.

The session was moderated by General Manager of TUTV and Associate Professor of Media Studies and Production Paul Gluck. Gerard is an award-winning director at CBS, most recently for the CBS News Sunday Morning program.

In the latest episode of Queer Temple, host Andreas Copes takes a look back at one year of QueerCOVID–a year of challenges, protest, and change.

To discuss the various ways the pandemic has impacted the queer community, he speaks to guests Nik Schmeltzer, a Temple alum who graduated in 2020; Nu’Rodney Prad, IDEAL’s Director of Student Engagement; Rachel Berson, who is writing her thesis on World Pride; and Kendall Stephens, a trans activist.

The anchor, host and reporter for NBC Sports Philadelphia and the Sixers Talk Podcast grew up in North Philly and now gets to cover the sports teams he grew up watching.

Together with Alexis, Danny discusses what attracted the Klein College alum to Temple University, how he got his start in Maryland and broke into sports from reading the news, the important of mentorship and the tenacity required to make it in media.

Tune in for a special presentation of Your Best Life with host Lisa Bien premiering on TUTV this week. In a new hour-long episode, Lisa hears from three people who have lost a loved one to suicide and have gone on to turn tragedy into advocacy. Lisa sheds a light on the long-lasting effects that suicide has on those left behind.

Ihsan Hines, President of My Brother’s Keeper; Deirdre Breckenridge, author of A Whisper From Noelle; and Mary Ann Murtha, Area Director of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention join Lisa to discuss how their lives have been impacted by suicide and how they have gone on to work towards suicide prevention and awareness.

New comedy program premieres Saturday

Laugh It Up with Lauren: Pilot

TUTV is excited to add a brand new program to our roster! Laugh It Up with Lauren is hosted by Lauren Schulman and showcases aspiring stand-up comedians along with fun segments in between.

The pilot episode was produced during the pandemic and features five stand-up comics performing from their apartments. Taylor Bernstein, Sarah Fatemi, Ross Weisman, Julian Maldonado, and Steve Lipman each deliver a short set individually and later join Lauren for a game at the end.

Media Inside Out is a media literacy television talk show that explores the media we love to watch, listen to, read and play with an analytical and critical approach. The series is produced and hosted by Sherri Hope Culver, director of the Center for Media and Information Literacy at Temple University.
