The Temp Returns

The Temp is a political talk show created by Klein College of Media and Communication students to educate audiences on hot-button issues and encourage people to share their stances on controversial topics.

With new hosts and a new studio, The Temp gets a makeover. In this episode, the crew moves to studio 3 to bring you the top Temple news headlines from Spring 2023. Hosts Madeline Gillespie and Brianna Fallon highlight topics such as the murder of Sergeant Christopher Fitzgerald, the TUGSA strike, the Taylor Swift Ticket debacle, the Eagles Super Bowl loss, the best pizza in town, and more. Next, correspondent Jetta Holiday visits the ECO Foundation, a West Philly community service center, to learn more about their programs and how students can give back to the community. Later, she stops by Braids By Jewel to talk to the young entrepreneur who is providing the community with more than just braids.

Temple Smash Returns

Temple Smash is Temple University’s first and only televised variety show, produced for students by students. Taped in front of a live studio audience in TV Studio 1 of Annenberg Hall at Klein College, the show features an array of talented acts, including original sketch comedy, musical groups, dancers, stand-up comics, short films, and more.

On this episode of Temple Smash, the crew delivers a fresh batch of hilarious skits and segments. Included in this episode are “Crazy Swiggy’s,” “Focus Group,” “Late Night,” “The Good, The Bad, and The Fugly,” “Hip Hop Hospital,” “Naughty List,” “The Stocks” and much more!

11th Annual Sports Media Summit

The Claire Smith Center for Sports Media at Klein College of Media and Communication hosts its Sports Media Summit every year. During the event, attendees can connect with top editors, videographers, and leaders in sports media working in Philadelphia and around the country. This year’s event featured two keynote speakers: Max McGee, KLN ‘15, ESPN SportsCenter anchor, and award-winning journalist Jemele Hill.

Professor Matt Fine moderates as Award-winning journalist Jemele Hill closes out the Summit. Hill has been a working journalist for more than 25 years and speaks about how her confidence has developed as she progresses in her career. After 11 months, Hill quit as a SportsCenter anchor due to different values with the company’s culture and creative issues. Hill encourages people to know themselves before they enter the workplace and stay true to their values.
Jemele Hill is now a contributing writer for The Atlantic and has a memoir, Uphill, discussing her harrowing childhood in Detroit, which she says gave her the confidence she needed to overcome challenges.

High Flying Owls

High Flying Owls brings to light the exciting entrepreneurial energy of Temple’s graduates. Dwight Carey, an Assistant Professor of Strategic Management at Temple, interviews alums who have started their own companies.

In this episode of High Flying Owls, host Dwight Carey interviews Temple Alum and Professor Anthony Seeton, Temple MBA Candidate Geoffrey Middleberg, and president of the Fox School of Business “Student Entrepreneurial Association” Aiden Lamb. Together, these Owls discuss what consulting is, why anyone can become a Consultant, and they share their experiences relating to the industry’s past, present, and future.

Student Project Showcase

Each semester Klein Students produce a Student Project Showcase. For the Fall 2022 semester, hosts Cameron Murray and Tatiyana Harris changed the format slightly by bringing you one program titled Temple Town: Finding Your Nest. In this Showcase, they look at how Communities around campus formed pre and post Pandemic. From the Cecil B Moore Skate Park to campus activities focused on improving mental and physical well-being, this program will show you all the free ways to find your Community around campus. Special guests include Temple Alum Erin Phelan and Director of Mental Health Counseling Edward Darrah.

Feel Good Cooking Returns

Host Seth Carney returns in this all-new episode of Feel Good Cooking. Seth mixes things up and alongside co-cook Henry, creates a Mesopotamian Lamb Stew. From the prep to the finished product, both cooks whip up this tasty dish in two different kitchens before coming together for the final taste test.

1 Medium Yellow/Spanish Onion
2 Diced Shallots
1LB. Diced Beets
1LB. Lamb Stew Meat
1tsp Coriander Seeds
2 TBSP Olive Oil
2 TBSP Honey or Molasses
1 tsp Salt
1 Cup Sour Beer
3/4-1 Cup arugula
1 Cup Cilantro
3 Diced Garlic Cloves
1 Leek

A Student Conversation

Each year, Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University honors one luminary from the media world whose work and career inspire its students. The 2022 Lew Klein Excellence in the Media awardee was Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, an Oscar- and Grammy-winning musician. Questlove is renowned for excellence in many forms of media and entertainment. He is best known as the co-founder of Philadelphia’s most influential hip-hop group, The Roots, the house band for The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Questlove is the musical director of the show.

David Boardman, Dean of the Klein College of Media and Communication at Temple University, moderates this inspiring student discussion between Temple University students and the 2022 Lew Klein Excellence in the Media awardee Questlove.

TUTV Student Journalist Wins

Klein College of Media and Communication Student and TUTV Reporter, Corey Thompson, is this year’s recipient of the CBS News Philadelphia Trudy Haynes Scholarship. The award is presented in collaboration with the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists and honors the memory of pioneering Eyewitness News reporter Trudy Haynes. She was the first African American Woman to report for a Philadelphia Television Station.

CBS3 Eyewitness News Anchor Janelle Burrell and the President of the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, Ernest Owens, surprised Corey in Temple’s Annenberg Hall with a scholarship check for $10,000.

Corey is currently a student Reporter for TUTVs award-winning live news broadcast, Temple Update, and has been a correspondent for TUTVs first entertainment talk show, Temple Talk. When Corey isn’t reporting or in class, he serves as the Co-President of the Temple Association of Black Journalists and is a National Association of Black Journalists member. Before Temple, Corey served four years in the Air Force as a Senior Airman in New Jersey.

“When I think of Trudy Haynes, I think of how she became a pioneer by breaking molds and showing up as her true self,” Corey told CBS3. “I want to challenge society in Philadelphia through storytelling.”
