Dialogue on the Diamond: A Continuing Conversation

For the first time since 1996, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game is returning to Philadelphia in 2026 — and leaders from Temple University, the Philadelphia Phillies, Major League Baseball and the City of Philadelphia are determined to make it more than just a game.

On August 20, the Claire Smith Center for Sports Media and the Logan Center for Urban Investigative Reporting hosted Dialogue on the Diamond at Temple’s Annenberg Hall — an event aimed at sparking collaboration to improve youth sports opportunities and community well-being in North Philadelphia.

The evening featured panel discussions with Phillies great Jimmy Rollins, former Phillie and current ESPN analyst Doug Glanville, Phillies President Dave Dombrowski, Del Matthews of MLB, and Mike Barsotti from Philadelphia Parks and Recreation. They explored how the All-Star Game’s spotlight could help drive investment in local baseball fields, youth sports programs, and mentorship opportunities.

“For North Philadelphia, this opportunity extends beyond the game itself,” said Deborah Cai, acting dean of Klein College. “It’s about how investment, programs and partnerships can expand access to youth sports, improve local facilities and create a sense of possibility for young people.”

This special TUTV program captures the powerful conversations, community energy, and shared commitment that filled the room that night.
