John Fry, Temple University’s 15th president, is a nationally recognized higher education leader with a strong track record in academic innovation, community engagement, and economic development. Before joining Temple, he served as Drexel University’s president for 13 years, where he expanded global research partnerships, secured major NIH and NSF research funding, and led a groundbreaking merger with Salus University to enhance Drexel’s health sciences programs. His leadership also facilitated the launch of Drexel Ventures, a hub for academic-industry collaboration, and the $3.5 billion Schuylkill Yards development, a major innovation district in Philadelphia.

Fry is known for his success in fundraising, having led Drexel’s record-setting $800 million campaign to support student success, faculty excellence, and research initiatives. His commitment to public-private partnerships helped improve access to healthcare and community development, including acquiring St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children to sustain critical medical services in North Philadelphia.

Recognized for his contributions to higher education and urban planning, Fry was inducted into the American Philosophical Society in 2024. This prestigious honor reflects his impact on scholarship, leadership, and university-community partnerships​
