
Congratulations to Temple Update on their well-deserved win at the 2025 Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) Media Awards. Their April 18, 2024, broadcast earned them the award for Best Newscast, a recognition of the hard work, talent, and dedication demonstrated by the students behind the program.
Temple Update is an award-winning news show that is entirely written, produced, directed, and anchored by Temple University students. Each week, the team delivers a half-hour broadcast covering a wide range of stories that matter to the Temple community and the city of Philadelphia. Their reporting highlights both campus life and events across the region, and their focus on delivering timely, accurate news continues to set them apart.
The winning episode featured anchors Maggie Fitzgerald and Alissa Clausell at the main desk for their final broadcast of the semester. The show included a variety of important stories and community highlights. Christian Lee returned to the Sports Desk to report on the latest in Temple athletics, while Pauline Carr provided the upcoming weather forecast.
The broadcast also featured key reports on developments at the university and in the city. Oliver Sabo covered updates on Temple’s Presidential Search, while Grace Rufalo reported on the TUPD ride-alongs, giving viewers a closer look at campus safety efforts. Maggie Fitzgerald presented a story on Temple junior Ray Epstein, who received the prestigious Truman Scholarship, and also reported on the results of the student body government elections.
Other stories included coverage from Grace Benenati on field trips at Temple’s Rome Campus, a report by Asada Owens on the excitement surrounding Temple Football’s Cherry and White game, and Sean Walsh’s piece on Philadelphia’s Punk Rock Flea Market.
The Intercollegiate Broadcasting System (IBS) is a long-standing organization that supports college and high school media programs across the country and internationally. Founded in 1940, IBS is run by dedicated volunteers who are passionate about student media. Each year, they host an international conference where member stations submit entries for the IBS Media Awards. In 2025, more than 3,000 entries were received from over 100 schools worldwide. Winning an IBS award is a significant achievement that highlights excellence in student broadcasting.
