A documentary for beer lovers airs Friday

On Tap title cardOn Tap is a  documentary made by Temple students that explores the rising popularity of craft beer and its impact on the American beer market, specifically in the Philadelphia region. Patrons, fans, and owners of craft breweries are interviewed to give insight into why these flavorful brews have caught on.

Prior to the craft beer trend, American beer was considered to be limited to three brands: Budweiser, Miller, and Coors. Now craft breweries are expanding the palate of American beer drinkers by producing smaller batch brews with more experimental, intense flavors.

The emergence of craft beer has also allowed beer fans to engage in other positive movements, such as supporting the local economy and their community and practicing sustainable consumer habits.

Owners of local breweries (Tom Kehoe of Yards, Scott Rudich of Round Guys Brewing Company) and pubs (Fergie Carey of Belgian Cafe, Monk’s) are highlighted through interviews in this short film.

On Tap was produced by Robert Chaz Flores, Ryan Hallas, Caitlin McHale, Lydia Peterson and Abby Zeppenfelt for Professor Kristine Trever Weatherston’s Media Studies & Production class.

The program airs Friday May 16 at 12:30 and 8:30 p.m. on Comcast channel 50, Verizon 45 and online.
