New student produced doc highlights a historical Philly oasis

TUTV presents a new documentary made by Temple students that tells the story of one of Philadelphia’s most beautiful and historic sites: the Wissahickon Valley. Wissahickon is a film produced, directed and edited by Erica Hochman, Ben Hyclak, Tessa Sulkes and Andrew Weigel for MSP professor Kristin Trever Weatherston’s production class. It premieres on Comcast channel 50, Verizon channel 45 and online on Friday at 12:30 p.m. and it will be re-aired the same day at 8:30 p.m.

The doc features interviews with members of the Friends of the Wissahickon group and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation employees in addition to original music by MSP graduate Erica Hochman and the band Modern Baseball. The film highlights the ups and lows of having such a unique ecosystem so closely entwined with the urban environment. The Wissahickon is a creek that runs through Northwest Philadelphia and features buildings and structures dating back to the time when Europeans first settled in the Pennsylvania region.
