Banana Bread

Ruth Ost, Director of Temple University’s Honors Program, brings in a collection of family heirlooms that have a history dating back to when she was four. Keeping to her mother’s handwritten instructions, she bakes her family’s special banana bread with the help of Baker Dave.

Applying the unusual technique of adding baking soda instead of baking powder with warm water, the breakfast staple passes the taste test by J&H chef Matt Clarke. If not already a masterpiece, Baker Dave adds his own stamp by sending off the banana bread with a caramelized butter topping, turning this baked good into a four star dessert.
