The World at Temple

Host Katie Bandish covers the latest happenings on campus with international student groups, including a Lunar New Year tea party hosted by The International Student Association. Members of the ISA e-board, Ashwanie Poonie, Janine Fanjiang, and Donatas Zukas, sit down with Katie to discuss the significance of Lunar New Year for many Asian communities and how events like this help build the international student community at Temple.

Now back at Temple, students who studied abroad in Japan reflect on their experiences studying and living in a different culture. Jin Su Kim, an international student from South Korea, compares the Korean dishes tteokbokki and bibimbap that students can get at food trucks around campus to the the traditional dishes from his home country.

The Vibe presents a live studio performance by special guest Chill Moody in a new episode airing this Thursday, May 24 at 1 and 9 p.m.

The show starts off with a discussion of the recent simultaneous success of Black Panther and A Wrinkle a Time–both films made by black directors and featuring black actors as the leads–and what this hopefully means for the future of cinema. On this edition of Hip Hop History, the influence of rap on mainstream cinema starting in the 90s, from Juice to Men in Black to 8 Mile, to Black Panther today, is covered. The Artist Spotlight highlights visual artist Taj Cannon, who paints and makes clothes under the name Poscé. He’s also looking forward to a six-week residency at Yale Norfolk this summer.

In addition to another round of rap battles and a Poetry Spotlight, West Philly native and Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best Rapper” Chill Moody performs his signature brand of uplifting rap live for the studio audience.

PNTV uncovers the city’s hidden gems

Philadelphia Neighborhoods On TV returns to TUTV this Thursday with an all new episode exposing the untold stories in the city of Philadelphia and going deeper on the issues affecting this community.

Rob DiRienzo reports on the effect that the opioid epidemic is having on Philadelphia, where the Northeast appears to be an epicenter of the problem. There have been 907 deaths in Philadelphia from opioid overdoses in 2016 alone, and some citizens are taking action to prevent more from occurring.

PNTV also takes a closer look at how the city’s tourism industry has been impacted by the Eagles Super Bowl win. More tourists are visiting Philadelphia to see the sights as the city’s reputation has been elevated from the win.

The Pinish Line, a brand new segment, debuts and covers sports organizations unique to the city.

Watch Temple’s Class of 2018 walk at the 2018 Commencement ceremony this Thursday on TUTV.  NJ Senator Cory Booker will address this year’s graduating class and earn an honorary degree.

Watch TUTV to see it live starting at 9:30 a.m. on May 10th. Tune in to Comcast 50/Verizon 45 in Philadelphia city limits or online everywhere. We will also air the ceremony again later the same day at 5:30 p.m.

Bouncing back from adversity with Lisa Bien

Bouncing Back Adversity

Philly-born Jay Sellers comes to the set of Lisa Bien’s Bouncing Back to describe overcoming adversity in his life to become a helping hand in the North Philly community as a school and outreach counselor and therapist.

When he was 15 years old, his father died suddenly and tragically from a heart attack. In a tailspin, teenage Jay went down a self-destructive path and fled home young. However, he bounced back from this dark time to go to college and begin helping others that are facing adversity as Associate Executive Director at NHS.

Dr. Kate Lewis Nolt, an expert in behavior modification, also shares her own stories of bouncing back from adversity as well as giving expert commentary on how to tap into inner strength.

Learn more about Tuttleman Counseling

Kayla Martin, Vice President of Services for the current Temple Student Government administration, speaks with the Director of Tuttleman Counseling Services, Dr. John Dimino, about Tuttleman’s wait time and the service innovations that they have implemented to meet the needs of students, such as, drop-in groups, the Resiliency Resource Center, and yoga and mindfulness meditation.

In light of recent student tragedies, many students have been asking Tuttleman Counseling to reduce the wait time so that more students can receive the help they need. As finals approach, and the end of the semester looms, Tuttleman Counseling Services faces their busiest season. Learn more about the services offered by watching the above interview.
