Student-made doc tackles gentrification in Philly

The Fight

The city of Philadelphia is back on the map after decades of disinvestment. But at what cost? “The Fight” highlights a case of eminent domain in Southwest Philly as a lens into the downsides of revitalization.

Temple student Daniel Ray tackles the history of homeownership in the city of Philadelphia in his film, from redlining, white flight, and blight to revitalization and finally to eminent domain and displacement, through interviews with experts, academics and long-time residents.

Using the funds from winning the Lew Klein Excellence in Media Scholarship, Klein College student Daniel Ray produced, directed, and edited “The Fight” to highlight the lives of Philadelphians that are living in the fallout of the city’s revitalization regime.

Tune in to TUTV this Friday, April 20 12:30 and 8:30 p.m. to watch the premiere.
